Writing and Rejection.
merlin:
[First. Second. Then…]
steampoweredmedia:
Also, you want a great high? Get a great rejection letter from a place like Esquire. I did and do and I save them all.
Somewhere, deep in our garage, I think I still have my first rejection from The Atlantic (ca. 1990). Blue embossed type on heavy card stock, if memory serves. Classy. Distinguished. Albeit, not signed.
And, I can’t begin to...

Can you imagine how the right-wing noise machine would react if President Obama:
Increased federal spending as a percentage of the economy to levels previously seen only during World War II.
Tripled the national debt.
Dramatically increased Social Security payroll taxes on employees and employers.
Increased the capital gains tax to 28%.
Raised gas taxes.
Increased federal...

Names Of The Dead →
“‘Die quickly’ congressman creates namesofthedead.com; GOP cries foul” - is the name of the article on TheHill.com that led me to this website.
In the article, the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) spokesperson, Andy Seré says:
“What is wrong with this man? Alan Grayson’s morbid exploitation of ‘the dead’ for personal political gain may be...

The soundtrack of Rent makes me happy.
inothernews:

Simply one of the greatest musicals of all time.
Dudes, I love Rent and was lucky enough to see it THREE TIMES on Broadway. At one time, I thought I knew it well enough to recite the entire script from the beginning. Let’s see…
December 24th, 9PM Eastern Standard time, from here on in I shoot without a script, let’s see if anything comes of it,...

“It’s not clear right now, the way [Republicans] are behaving, that they have a long-term plan,” Redlawsk said. “It strikes me that while the strategy of no to everything plays really well with the Republican base, they won’t be able to play for House seats unless they go beyond that.”
Ahhh, thanks, that is refreshing. I have heard a lot of Republicans squawking in my ears about...

Welcome Back to the Ranks of the Uninsured - via:... →
Definitely worth a read - maybe if more politicians that fight against healthcare overhaul read more personal stories from people that get butt-raped by the system they’d, you know, find some compassion in them to try to do the right thing and make sure this NEVER HAPPENS to ANY American citizen.

Easter Island, Nazca, Ollantaytambo, Paratoari, Tassili n’Ajjer and Giza are all aligned on a single great circle. Additional ancient sites that are located within one tenth of one degree of this great circle include Petra; Perseopolis; Khajuraho; Pyay, Sukothai and Anatom Island.
Too freaky not to post. Conspiracy theorists must cream their pants over this one.

Living Without Money, Abundantly →
Whoa!
I love the quote that is at the top of the page:
Before our white brothers came to civilize us we had no jails. Therefore we had no criminals. You can’t have criminals without a jail. We had no locks or keys, and so we had no thieves. If a man was so poor that he had no horse, tipi or blanket, someone gave him these things. We were too uncivilized to set much value on personal belongings....

It’s been getting down into the thirties almost every night this week… I HATE the winter, but now, my favorite part of the day is getting into my bed and cuddling up under the covers in my pre-warmed room… Good-night.

Things Only a Republican Could Believe:

Parents who don’t want their children to pray in school are Anti-American zealots — parents who don’t want their children to listen to a speech by the President of the United States telling them to work hard and get good grades are noble patriots.
Peacefully demonstrating against the country starting an international war is treason — showing up with automatic weapons to protest...

The Coming Collapse of the Middle Class →

What would happen if you compared a middle-class family in 1970 with a middle class family in 2009?
Distinguished Harvard law scholar, chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel, and one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2009, Elizabeth Warren, has crunched the numbers and here’s what she finds:
In 1970, the average husband-wife-and-two-kids family had one...

Lazy Sunday
Yes, this has been one of the laziest Sundays on record. The temperature is dropping, it’s snowing in mid-October around these parts now, which is abysmal, and I’ve been holed up in here with my child and the heat on all day long. I am going to regret this, but it wasn’t too hard of a decision to suffer financially instead of bodily, like when I freeze to death.
Kids movies all...

Forgetting a child in the backseat of a hot, parked car is a horrifying, inexcusable mistake. But is it a crime?
Came upon this article today - oh man, it’s long and it’s heartbreaking and it brought tears to my eyes, but you should read it.
Some things are out of our control - apparently memories aren’t as reliable as we believe them to be. What IS in our control, is the...

Intentions
Yesterday I applied to an online college so I can get a BA in Paralegal Studies. I don’t necessarily think that I want to be a paralegal for the rest of my life, but I am interested in the things I will be learning about, and ANY paralegal job would pay better than what I am making now.
Also, why did I really choose to do this? I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and… I think I...
